The Plastics Industry Association of America has reported a 1% increase in plastic manufacturing employment in 2023, according to the recently released 2024 Plastic Size and Impact Report, which exceeds the average growth across all manufacturing sectors.

Besides that, the report also shows that plastic industry achieved nearly $520 billion in sales in 2023, which plays a vital role in the economy of the United States.

Based on the most recent information published in 2022, the plastic products industry ranks among the top ten industries in the U.S. in gross output, consistently contributing to the economy through job creation and continuous innovation.

Dr. Perc Pineda, chief economist at the association said, “The report shows growth in the industry’s real economic value added– adjusted for inflation – an increase in its share of consumer demand in the market, and a rise in annual payroll.”

Moreover, the association has unveiled its first Plastics Demand Estimate report, which is intended to serve as an indicator for the U.S. plastics industry supply chain. The report will be released to members each month.

Dr. Perc Pineda said, “While demand will continue to vary monthly, the year-over-year change in plastics demand at current prices and real demand, adjusted for inflation, has been more aligned in recent periods compared to 2021 and 2022.”
