Sustainable flexible packaging - What is your preferred choice BOPP/CPP or BOPE? Why?
In my opinion, BOPP/CPP with the following advantages, offers a unique proposition making them the most suitable substrate for sustainable flexible packaging.
1.      Clarity & Printability: BOPP films have excellent clarity, allowing vibrant and high-quality printing. This is particularly beneficial for products that require attractive graphics or product visibility on the store shelves.
2.      Barrier Properties: BOPP films offer good barrier properties against moisture, gases, and oils, providing better shelf life.
3.      Versatility: BOPP films are highly versatile and can be used for a wide range of applications – Packaging, Labels, Adhesive Tapes, and more.
4.      Cost-Efficiency: BOPP films are one of the most cost-effective substrates available, it helps keep the packaging costs low for the brands.
5.      Easy Availability: BOPP film manufacturing capacities are installed in all parts of the world, making it one of the easiest to source.
6.      Recyclable: BOPP/CPP structures being mono polymer are easy to recycle, helping reduced waste and supporting a circular economy.
So why is the industry today looking towards BOPE?
Possible because BOPE can be recycled in the existing Polyethylene recycling streams, which are widely available, while BOPP currently has a limited recycling infrastructure.
